Good afternoon, everyone.

I'll call the board meeting to order in just a moment, and SPS TV will begin broadcasting.

This is President Rankin.

I am now calling the board special meeting to order at 3.48 PM.

We have with us directors of the Seattle School Board, Director Briggs, Director Clark, Director Hersey, Director Mizrahi, Vice President Sarju, Director Topp, and this is Director Rankin.

The superintendent is also here with us.

Where did he go?

And we also have staff with us today, and we are joined by special guests to celebrate the oath of office of our new student members.

So this evening we'll be swearing in our school board student members, Colin Bragg, Sophia Ilias, and Sabi Yoon.

This is exciting as this is our third cohort of student board members.

SPEAKER_00

All right.

As this is our moment to highlight our students, I will ask each student board member, if they wish, to come and provide some comments in the same order as oaths of office were done.

So Director Bragg.

SPEAKER_03

Hi, I'm Collin Bragg and this is an honor and an amazing opportunity that I've been presented.

I'm really excited to be the second student from Lincoln High School and the first student from Skill Center.

I can't wait to be able to work with the board of directors and be able to work to inform the student body, be a representative for students with IEPs And I think that's it.

Thank you for the honor.

I cannot wait to start work.

SPEAKER_00

Director Ilyas.

SPEAKER_02

Hello, my name is Sophia Elias and I cannot express how grateful I am for this position.

I've been a student of Seattle Public Schools since I was five and I am really grateful I can represent 50,000 students.

It's really cool.

I spoke here not too long ago and I just, you know, it was empowering.

It felt that my voice was heard and considering I'm underrepresented, it was really cool.

So I'm really excited for this term and to serve as your student rep. Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Director Yoon.

SPEAKER_01

Hi everybody, my name is Sabi Yoon and I'm a junior at Ballard High School.

First, I would like to thank everyone for their time today and giving me this opportunity.

It is truly an honor.

A little bit about me, I run the mock trial team at my school and It was really hard to start a new club but also fund money for such a big program with many students and that was kind of the main drive for me to wanting to voice student concerns and needs for not just mock trial but SPS as a whole and with this time I have in the position my goal is to really leverage the opportunity to drive positive change for the current and future SPS community and I just want to say thank you to everyone.

SPEAKER_00

We'll now bring all directors up to get some photos of our school board for the 2024-25 school year.

And then after photos, we invite our guests to join us and student members for cake.

I mean cake, it's actually officially on the agenda because the meeting adjourns after that.
